Making the Gospel Real

Shady Grove Baptist Church where our greatest joy is spreading the Gospel and winning new souls for Christ. We are a faith community built on love and Christian fellowship; and our doors are opened to people of all backgrounds; for we truly understand and appreciate the power of diversity. As a faith community we are committed to spreading the Gospel locally and around the world, understanding the spiritual needs and social needs of the local communities and making the Gospel real and exciting to a new generation of believers.

Reggie Cleveland,
Senior Pastor

 Tenets of Faith

  1. We believe in the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  2. We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God.

  3. We believe that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

  4. We believe that salvation comes by believing on the name of Jesus the Christ, who was crucified; buried and resurrected.

  5. We believe that the church has a mission that was assigned by the Savior and contained in the great commission.

  6. We believe that the church is the body of Christ whose members have different gifts to carry of the work of the kingdom; and that it has power when it operates in the Spirit; and practices love and unity.

Our History

Shady Grove Baptist Church, Gum Spring, Virginia, was organized in 1871 A.D., not on the current grounds, but approximately one mile northeast on a place known as the Old Duke Farm. There was no church building initially, instead, the members worshipped in a brush arbor. It was through the generous gift of Brother Thomas Jackson, Sr. that the current piece of land was granted. On this plot, two structures were erected, including our present building which was completed in 1976.

Shady Grove has been blessed with years of strong pastoral leadership and Rev. Reginald Cleveland, current pastor, was installed as pastor on Sunday, December 21, 2003.

Through faith, prayer, love, and teaching, Shady Grove Baptist Church continues to work for the betterment of the Christian community. With God on our side, we will continue striving for higher heights in service for our Master above.
